Just as it seemed like Wojciech Szczęsny had spent his last days as a Roma player, he made his return at the end of the summer. So far this season he has played a pivotal role in protecting Roma’s goal, making several high level saves. The ‘giallorossi’ remain the most credible antagonists to Juventus so far this season, and part of the merits for this go to the Ex Arsenal keeper.
Szczesny spoke to Roma’s official website about their next game with Atalanta: ‘There is a lot to learn from our game against them last season. Had we won we would have had enough points for direct Champions League qualification. It should serve as a lesson’.
After the game with Atalanta, Milan and Juventus are their next adversaries: ‘We need to try and win these games, simple. It doesn’t matter if it’s against Juventus, Milan or Lazio, the important thing is going after the three points. We need to be first or at least in the high part of the standings for the winter break’.
Europa League: ‘It’s very important. Obviously nobody wanted to be in the middle of a Europa League group stage at this point in the season, but we failed to qualify for the Champions League, so we now have the obligation of going as far as possible in this competition’.
On the clubs overall objectives this season: ‘Winning the league is definitely something we want to be doing. We aren’t here to fight for second place. Whatever the competition, we want to win, whether its Serie A or Europa League. Juventus is clearly the favorite, but we believe in ourselves’.
