Roma, Strootman: ‘My injury changed me as a person. Juventus? Roma is the only thing that matters'

Now that he has fully recovered from his ligament injury, Kevin Strootman is back to being a pivotal player for Roma. The dutch midfielder spoke to UEFA’s website, and he begins by discussing his injury:

‘I feel like I’m now a different person. I do my best to always be in the best possible shape, more than ever before. I work on my body before and after training with the medical staff. Even though what I went through was tough, I have to forget everything and look ahead. I had three different surgeries, but the final one was the worst. Just as you think you’re getting better, they tell you something isn’t right: A horrible feeling. Everyone had my back though; it allowed me to have the right motivation to get through this. I’m happy to be back’.

A true warrior on and off the pitch, all Roma fans know his facial expressions: ‘I’m much calmer off the pitch. I hate to lose and it’s quite obvious during games. Obviously nobody enjoys losing, but in my case you can just tell by my facial expressions and how I carry myself after a defeat’.

Strootman then had something to say on Spalletti and his future in Rome: ‘We definitely have a good relationship: I get lots of playing time and he’s fully supported me, even during my injury. He did well to listen to the team and work on tactics once he got here. Thanks to him, we’re achieving great things. Objectives? No need to pick, we aim to win all competitions’.

Juventus remains the obstacle in Roma’s way: ‘I’m not interested in talking about Juventus. They’re strong, they won five titles in a row, but we’re Roma and all I care about is talking about Roma’.
