Roma is pushing to surpass Napoli in the standings so they can get automatic entry into the group stage of the Champions League next season, a period not ideal to sell Konstantinos Manolas. The reason why? Aside from the player's considerable ability there are also financial considerations. As reported by Football Leaks, there is a clause in the agreement between Roma and Olympiacos, the club that sold the talented center back. At the moment Roma just owns half of the player's rights, they will have to pay an additional €6.5 million (on top of the €6.5 million they already paid) to fully own him.
According to this clause should Roma sell Manolas by September 1st of this year, Olympiacos would be entitled to half of the transfer fee rather than just €6.5 million. As an example, should Roma sell Manolas for €20 million this summer, Olympiacos would receive €10 million. Roma clearly has a financial incentive to keep Manolas this summer on top of his performamces on the field.
