Roma snatches an important victory in the Roman derby with Lazio, giving them a tied second place with Milan. The game ended 2-0 amid many tense moments. Luciano Spalletti spoke to Sky Sport after the game:
“It was a different Roma in terms of the way we played. When we have Salah and El Shaarawy we’re able to counter much faster, today it was all about playing the ball well. Biglia gave us a lot of issues from the start, but when Radja Nainggolan got a hold of him we suffered less”.
“Dzeko? A great footballer, but also a fantastic person. He is a true professional. I still believe he can give so much more. In terms of possession we did really well today. Regardless of injuries, we were all chosen by Roma to win for Roma. These are exactly the types of difficult games that you just have to win. But we still have to be able to aim higher than just the Roman derby. Winning games and becoming consistent is our target”.
What does Roma need to improve on?: “We need to show the quality of our midfield. If for example we start a game and our opponents dominate, sooner or later you concede a goal. In the second half our midfielders pushed up the field and we finally played better. We played as a team. When we lose, Lazio always has a little fun with us, so it’s only fair for the lads to celebrate a couple of days. We’ll be happy for this win for two days, then the celebrations will end. If anyone shows up to training taking anything for granted, maybe I’ll replace him with one of the reserves”.
