After an impressive 4-0 win in the first leg against Villareal, Roma will face the Spanish side once again in Rome tomorrow night. Despite the comfortable situation, Luciano Spalletti doesn’t trust his opponents, and demands that his team remains concentrated. Here is what he had to say in his press conference:
“It’s going to be a difficult match: If we don’t prove to be ready, we might have some unpleasant surprises. There have been several shocking results in previous football encounters, but this cannot have anything to do with us. We need to interpret the match perfectly. These results aren’t possible without the contribution of those who play less. If people like Vermaelen, Paredes, and Jesus want to consider themselves reserves, then we can say that tomorrow the reserves will be playing. But that’s forcing the term. Totti will play, I’m not sure about Gerson yet.”
The bookies view Roma as the favorites to win the entire tournament, right behind Manchester United: “I don’t know what our path will be, I don’t know what difficulties we’ll face. All I know is that the desire to do well for our fans will never fade. We have to win as many matches as we can. Tomorrow’s game seems like one in which all you have to do is play conservatively: We will not be doing such a thing, we plan to win the match.”
A final comment on Dzeko and Salah: “They’ve changed thanks to the overall improvement of the team. Dzeko is physically strong, Salah is rapid; together they work well. The real difference maker is the team, what they do is give an extra pinch of quality. Neither of them will play tomorrow”.
