The sale of Roma from James Pallotta to Dan Friedkin is extremely close after months of work with a long delay over the spring. Preliminary agreements preceding the official sale of the club are set to be signed. When talks accelerated last fall, the price was set at €700m. After COVID-19 Friedkin re-approached with a new offer of €450m plus €80m for recapitalization. While the buyer's price was firm, Pallotta strongly pushed back with a new offensive but was ultimately left with few options as Friedkin was the only serious bidder. Prospective buyers from Kuwait to South America failed to materialize.
The sense of urgency was being driven by the balances and liquidity, together with significant outside pressures and led to the decision taken in recent hours: Pallotta accepted Dan Friedkin's offer and will soon sign the initial agreements. There will be other steps before the final deal can close, and could take weeks or months, but Dan Friedkin is set to become the new owner of Roma.
