Roma's 0-0 draw with Sassuolo on Saturday helped nearly fully drain their hopes for a Champions League appearance. With one final match remaining in Serie A, the looming departure of Daniele De Rossi was heavy in the air. The coach Claudio Ranieri spoke afterwards about the delicate situation in the locker room: "Time and again it's been said that the team needs to be more clinical, I say that we needed to be a little bit more lucky. We created many chances, it was a shame not to take three points home, but so it goes. Sunday we will witness a celebration for De Rossi, for everything he has given this team. There are players who should be thought as different than the others and I feel that Daniele should merit a special treatment. The club's philosophy is clear, when there's a group of directors who come to a decision there is little to second-guess. Surely, if I was in their place I would have come to different conclusions, especially considering that De Rossi is a player who's different thatn the others."
Ranieri on the squad next year: "I don't think that even next year Roma can compete for Champions League, there needs to be a summit between the new coach and the club to relaunch it with the many young players who make up the team. One stably a participent in the Europa League they can return to aiming for the Champions League."
