Roma certainly made a big splash today by hiring Jose' Mourinho. The day began with the giallorossi announcing Paulo Fonseca wasn't returning next season, following by the communication on the Special One's hire.
The negotiation between the Italian club and Mourinho started right around the time of his sacking at Tottenham, director Tiago Pinto contacted Valdir Cardoso- Mendes' right hand man- to ask if Mourinho was open to joining them. That was followed with an in person meeting between Roma's owners, Joao Pinto and Mourinho himself in London.
Roma made a substantial financial sacrifice by offering Mourinho a three year deal with an annual salary of around €7.5 million after taxes, in addition thanks to clause in his previous contract with Tottenham, the Premier League club will contribute enough to match the 16 million he was supposed to earn with them through 2022.
