Ahead of a Champions League semifinal for Roma, the club's sporting director gave an interview to Il Messaggero, where the ex-Sevilla man spoke about the season that Roma is experiencing, full of surprises and excitement for the club and their new top voice on transfers: "If I thought I had put together the perfect team, I was mistaken, but whoever thinks the opposite is wrong too. I think that a limited squad would not arrive in the Champions League semifinal and would not be fighting for third place. That being said, I think that every aspect can be improved. The team is not perfect, but it has many strengths and because of that today we are having a dream season. Going to the semifinal of the Champions League but far from the Scudetto? In football 2+2, fortunately or not, doesn't always equal 4. I believe we have experienced some negative moments and we had a little bit of bad luck. But it has been an experience for us all, the coach and I are in a new reality and I believe we have done very well, if at the beginning of the season you would have told me we we'd be in third place with four games remaining and in the semifinal of the Champions League, I'd have signed for that. Would I sign for finishing fifth and winning the Champions League? If I knew that I would be lifting the trophy, yes. For the fans, it's better to arrive in the final, but for us it's more important to qualify for the Champions League. They are two different things, qualification in the league brings money for next season, the money we earn during the Champions League counts towards this years balances."
