Roma has made official the acquisition of Cengiz Ünder on their official website. The Turkish player will be bound to the Giallorossi until 2022. Roma will have to pay Basaksehir a €13,4m fee and 1,5m bonuses linked to personal and club objectives. Here is Roma's statement:
"The club is delighted to confirm the signing of Cengiz Under from Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir FK.
The 20-year-old joins for an initial fee of €13.4 million. Depending on the achievement of certain performance targets, on the part of both the player and the club, the Giallorossi could pay up to an additional €1.5m in bonuses.
The Turkey international has signed a five-year contract with Roma that runs until 30 June 2022.
“I'm delighted to be here and very excited about meeting the fans,” Cengiz said. “My aim is to earn myself a regular starting berth as quickly as possible."
The versatile midfielder – who celebrated his birthday on Friday – began his career as a youngster at Bucaspor, before joining Altinordu in the summer of 2014.
After 50 games and 11 goals in the second division, last summer he was signed by Basaksehir – for whom he would play 32 games and score seven goals in the Turkish Super Lig as the club qualified for the play-off rounds of this season's Champions league.
"We are extremely happy with the arrival of Cengiz, a player with great technical ability," sporting director Monchi said. "We are confident he will quickly adjust to his new surroundings and his quality and talent will be a valuable addition to our squad."
A former youth international, Cengiz has recently broken into Turkey’s senior side and has so far picked up four caps, scoring two goals.
At Roma he will wear the No. 17 shirt."
