Roma coach Paulo Fonseca spoke ahead of Roma's midweek match against Fiorentina to the media. Fonseca previewed the response he expects from his team after falling to Milan in their last league match. The comments from the giallorossi coach ahead of the encounter: "We are the 13th ranked defense in Serie A, the team has suffered more than it has wanted to. But the problem we must understand is not the defensive setup. Milan created very few dangerous chances, we were balanced and we stayed in shape. The problems are from our own making, we lose the ball a lot in the buildup. We always want to play out of the back but we must learn when we are able to do so."

"Pau Lopez? It's important that the goalkeeper can play the ball, but he needs to understand when not to do so. It was possible against Milan, Pau was not being pressured and he made a mistake, it was the right play. We are working every day on improving this aspect."

"Is it a mistake that we don't change our game against the big teams? I don't agree. We need to develop identity. All the best teams have it. The seven teams looking for the top four spots don't seem to mee like they change their playstyles. Formations can change but not identity, the good teams don't change according to their results."

"We have always reacted well after defeats, and we are not depressed after Milan. The players understood their mistakes and what we need to improve on. We are ready to fight."
