Roma, El Shaarawy: “I’m working to find more space. Italian national team? I have to do well here first”

With the victory against Napoli already behind them, it’s time for Roma to switch their focus to their upcoming Europa League match against Austria Wien tomorrow. It will be an important occasion to grab points and stay atop Group E.

Stephan El Shaarawy hopes to contribute on the pitch in tomorrow’s delicate matchup: "My start to the season was different than last year, but in terms of my physical condition and feeling, it’s very positive,” the giallorossi attacker admitted in the pregame press conference.

"The coach made other choices at the beginning: it’s normal, but I’m calm and I’m training well. I’m continuing to demonstrate what I can do to regain a starting spot. I can improve on being more effective in the attacking third, and more decisive in the actions I create. Then, I also have to improve my left foot a little, and I’m trying to do that. For me, the role is not a problem. I can also play left midfield, because I like to alternate between offense and defense. But these are the choices of the coach and should be respected. It’s true that in order to return to the national team, I have to do well here."

"My goal is to return to wearing the azzurri shirt, but it all starts at Roma. Few fans tomorrow at the Olimpico? I hope the stadium is full, we know how important the fans are. For us, it’s an added value. Three goals at Napoli wasn’t just a coincidence. We played well and we even deserved to score more goals. We’re lacking a bit of continuity, but we’re on the right path. We can only do well from here on out. We must continue like this: the coach is happy with how we started our last games.”
