After Roma's elimination from the Champions League at the hands of Liverpool at the semifinal stage, the club's general director spoke to Sky Sport about the result. The feeling around the club remains bitter after the narrow defeat in the tie, which also featured controversial refereeing decisions, but also pride at the success achieved and for the future of the club. Here were the thoughts of Mauro Baldissoni two days after elimination: "Obviously we still feel regret, when you make it until the final minute of a semifinal of the Champions League you must play thinking that you have earned that spot at the very end. That is what the players did, Liverpool earned it thanks to too many errors we made in the first leg, the feeling that the Reds were within reach. We can't ignore however what Roma's journey was and what we have built. The pledge we have made to make Roma one of the most important teams in Europe, we can say that the plan might seem ambitious, and it is, but what has happened has showed that this team can continue to compete in the Champions League. It is part of the growth process to believe that we can achieve a final of the Champions League. Our new point of departure is thinking not that we are guests but that we have the desire to go deep in the tournament. Refereeing? I want to emphasize that the president in public has affirmed a general point that the use of technology can avoid some of the errors made, so he stated that he supported their adoption in Europe. In the heat of the moment directly after the match, he was frustrated but he didn't want to show disrespect to anyone, above all the referee who was the first to recognize his mistakes. We must live with our errors, we must do better what we were poor at, whether we are directors, coaches, or players. We made several mistakes between the two legs and those were the reason for our defeat, not the errors by the referee. You cannot lose respect otherwise you cannot continue on in this."
