After coming up in Roma’s youth system where he won a scudetto, Coppa Italia and Super Cup, Luca Pellegrini has also established himself on the club’s first team. Today the defender born in ’99 was rewarded with a new contract through 2022, the giallorossi announced the deal on their official site: “The 19-year-old, an Italy Under-19 international and former title-winner with the Giallorossi’s Primavera side, has signed an extension with his boyhood club until 2022.
“Luca is an example of commitment to hard work and has a determination to improve, values that resonate with those of this club,” Roma sporting director Monchi said.
“With this renewal we are rewarding and retaining a player who, in football terms, was born and raised here and demonstrates all the values of Roma.”
An all-action left-back, Pellegrini joined Roma’s academy during the 2011-12 season and has gone on to represent both club and country throughout the age groups.
Yet to make his full debut for Eusebio Di Francesco’s side, the Rome-born teenager has nonetheless been selected in the first-team matchday squad on a number of occasions this season.
“I am passionate about Roma and always wanted this renewal, as those who know me know,” Pellegrini said.
“It is not easy to explain such a great feeling in words – but I hope to show it on the pitch.”
