As Roma announced the signing of Fazio, negotiations are ongoing for Vermaelen as well. Roma are very close to finding an agreement with the player on a four year contract worth three million euros per season (or a 3 year contract with an option for a 4th). The Belgian international has given his approval on a move to Rome to play under Luciano Spalletti.
Negotiations are ongoing with Barcelona as the Spanish club wants 2 million for the initial loan and 12 million for the obligatory buy-back (14 million euros total). Roma are currently offering 2 million euros plus 8 million euros for the buy-back. Both sides might find an agreement at 12 million euros total. Luciano Spalletti really wants the defender but James Pallotta hasn't given his definitive yes yet.
