There have been many rumours circulating regarding the future of Roma's prized youngster Nicolo Zaniolo. His agent, Claudio Vigorelli, took to Instagram to clear up these voices, by posting:
"Much talk has been heard in the last weeks about Zaniolo, about Roma and his contract. Given the media attention to which Nicolo was subjected to at a domestic and international level, it is important to make some clarifications. There has never been pressure on Roma or from Roma to renew Nicolo's contract. With the ex sporting director Monchi and Ricky Massara we had an agreement to revisit at the end of the season to readapt the contract of a player who had an extraordinary year with 36 appearances and six golas between Serie A and the Champions League. From July 1st Petrarchi assumed the role of director of sport of Roma. As I wait to meet him, I take this opportunity to publicly congratulate him on his new assignment and this new professional challenge. Petrarchi has already expressed publicly the esteem for a talented young man like Zaniolo, publicly recognized by authoratative experts and on the Cies Football Observatory in third place along the under-20 players. Nicolo is a product of a Roma that believed in his talent first and foremost and must be preserves as such. For this reason it is essential to build together the most suitable path to enhance him and continue the extraordinary growth next season as well."
"As far as we are concerned, there are no talks with any team in Italy or abroad as of today. Nicolo is enjoying the last days of deserved rest after a summer that saw him play in an important tournament like the under 21 Euros with the Italy shirt. He is ready to begin again giving the maximum as always, also thanks to the support of his family who has played a fundamental role to help him in the path of growth on and off the pitch, especially of a boy who is just 20 years old."
