The new year starts out with an important game for Real Madrid with a last 16 fixture in the Copa del Rey. The Spaniards will be playing against Sevilla, who currently sit third in the league standings, just four points behind Real Madrid. Zinedine Zidane went through various topics in the press conference ahead of the game, and he couldn’t avoid talking about the transfer window.
First up, James Rodriguez. The Colombian hasn’t tried to hide his unhappiness in the past few weeks after not being played as much as he would like. Zidane addressed this in the press conference: “We spoke about it. At the end of any sort of discussion I can say that James Rodriguez is a player for Real Madrid. He wants to stay here, playing for the most important club in the world. I treat James like any other member of this squad because everyone is important. Obviously it’s a difficult time when you don’t get to play in a final, it’s normal to be frustrated. I understand it can be frustrating, it would be for anyone”.
Zidane also dismisses any possibility for Morata to return to Juventus: “It’s not true, he’s happy here. He invested himself in the project, I doubt he wants to return to Juve”.
