In an interview with Coach Magazine, Cristiano Ronaldo takes a stroll down memory lane, having something to say for just about everyone. Everything he has won he sees as his own, and often times uses his opponents as motivation:
‘Football has taught me to use my opponents as motivation. They’ve helped me get better, if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t have been as successful’. On his relationship with Messi: ‘We aren’t close friends, but we both respect each other. The media likes to paint a huge rivalry, which honestly doesn’t exist’.
According to Ronaldo, Ferguson was his most important coach: ‘I would see Sir Alex Ferguson as a father figure. All my coaches played a role in my career, but when I arrived in Manchester I was just a kid. All of a sudden I found myself in one of the best clubs in the world, having Sir Alex was crucial in helping me settle. Mourinho? I’ve played for a lot of coaches, but he was the greatest tactician. He’s meticulous with every single detail’.
