As Cristiano Ronaldo continues to follow his own path, he touched on several topics when speaking to Dongqiudi : “The whistles at the Bernabeu? I don’t mind, I don’t lose sleep over it. Messi? We’re only rivals because we play in different clubs, but when we’re together we have mutual respect for each other. I have a normal relationship with him. It’s expected that people always compare us to each other. But at the end of the day, Cristiano is Cristiano, Messi is Messi. We’re both great players with individual and team awards that speak for themselves. I don’t like the comparisons, it’s a foreign concept to me. We are different: Two individuals who do their jobs, nothing else”.
In the last outing versus Malaga, some fans were inviting Ronaldo to leave for China: “I don’t care, my only focus is doing my job. Anyone can dislike whoever they want, but at the end of the day I can calmly sleep at night, knowing I’ve done my job. I’m not here to make those who hate me happy, I am here to give back to my fans.”
On Zidane: “I had a lot of respect for him when he was a player, and I have just as much of it for him now that he is a coach. When Zidane came, everything changed. He’s a very professional coach, very calm: Perhaps he’s exactly what we needed last year. With his arrival, we started the 40 game unbeaten streak. He managed to change our team’s mentality by winning as soon as he took charge.”
A final comment on a potential future as a coach: “It’d be a very difficult thing to do. As of now, my answer has to be no. But you never know, I could see things differently in the future. My focus right now is my career as a player”.
