Thiago Motta played his first game for Italy on the 9th of February 2011. That day Italy was playing Germany in Dortmund, where it finished 1-1. Today, the PSG midfielder appears to be left out of the squad. Nonetheless, ahead of Italy-Germany which will be played at the San Siro, Thiago Motta spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport about his experiences with the national team:
‘When I think of Germany it reminds me about my emotional debut. It was the beginning of my journey in which I had the honour of representing my nation in two Euro Cups and one World Cup. Ventura is doing the right thing by playing youngsters’.
On Balotelli and his rebirth in France: ‘Mario was able to find the right environment for him in Nice. Physically he isn’t at his best, but he has the time to become a key player again. To be of use to the Italian national team he needs to be more of a team player, settle with the group even when on the bench. Especially since players like Belotti and Immobile had to fight hard for a spot in the team’.
