Napoli want to be protagonists in the second half of the season despite Juventus’ dominance in Serie A and are looking for opportunities to bridge the gap in the January window. The partenopei have identified Nicolo’ Barella as ideal addition to bolster Ancelotti’s squad.
Napoli could try to close the deal for the midfielder born in ‘97 already during the January window should Allan leave, while PSG are interested in the Brazilian midfielder but they have yet to make an official offer. At the moment the most likely outcome is both players will stay at their respective clubs during the January window. However Napoli’s sporting director Giuntoli has already contacted both Cagliari and Barella’s agent to understand the likelihood of a deal.
Cagliari values Barella at €45 million with Napoli willing to offer him annual wages of €3 million after taxes. The deal could be completed in the summer under this framework, but there is competition. Chelsea haven’t given up, while the club’s brass isn’t fully convinced by Barella, manager Maurizio Sarri is pushing to acquire him to help replace Fabregas. Arsenal are also interested in the midfielder but he’s more of a target for the summer session.
