The top name for Napoli’s midfield is that of Axel Witsel. There’s already been a meeting with the player’s father-agent last week and today there was a proper blitz from the Italian club in Belgium today: the azzurro’s director of sports Cristiano Giuntoli, left in the late morning and came back early afternoon after meeting – at Zaventeem airport or around that area – the midfielder’s father again.
The negotiations continue. Witsel who is currently at Zenit earns about 2.2/2.3 million a year, he would like to earn around 4, whilst Napoli would be open to push to about 2.5 million plus bonuses. Talks are on-going, the player would be open to the move but only if his demands were fully met.
The only problem in striking the deal isn’t only the player’s salary but also Zenit who asks for 25 million and Napoli still has to negotiate with the Russians. The sum could go down but there is competition from diverse clubs, especially Chelsea. Witsel is the objective, Napoli want the Belgian and will not ease the pressure.
