‘I feel like because of what he has achieved, Wenger has respect from all of you, whereas I don’t think I receive the same respect’. This was how Jose Mourinho begun his press conference with the journalists, one day before Manchester United-Arsenal.
One of the many duels of the game will in fact be that of the coaches, two individuals who haven’t always seen eye to eye. Mourinho confirms this lack of synergy between the two with more comments on Wenger: ‘My last title was 18 months ago, not 18 years ago… I plan to win my 9th title at United, and my fourth premiership. I’ve been a champion in four different clubs, and I want to continue that success here. Either way tomorrows game will be between two managers with the best track record in this leagues history. I don’t play against coaches though, it’s always team versus team’.
A comment on Wayne Rooney and injuries: ‘He trained like everyone else and has the desire to play. He’s ready. We have some injuries but I won’t sit here crying about who I have and who I don’t have. It’s an opportunity for those who haven’t had as much space. Shaw? I have no issues with him. He’s been working well, so he’s ready to play’.
