The football world gathered in London today for the Transfer Room Summit, a conference with many sporting directors including guest of honor Monchi. Transfer Room is an online platform dedicated to the professional football world that over 500 clubs use including Juventus and Roma, during today’s conference Monchi shared some of his secrets:”This is a very useful tool, the less intermediaries in a deal, the smaller the costs. Monchi described some of the attributes that made him into a success in the field:”The most important quality is to be practical, because there’s no time to waste. You need to always be reachable, you must know how to communicate with anyone in the scouting area and especially be able to delegate. The work of a sporting director is a team effort, you must know that to get to the top”
How do people work with Monchi on a deal? “First of all I don’t consider myself a negotiator. You must be much more cold blooded than I. My strategy is to have numerous options: as an example if a team knows I’m interested in a keeper valued between 7 and 10 million, maybe they’ll ask for 15. It’s important to right way have a plan B: you must have a long list of alternatives”
Monchi explained all parties must be satisfied: “It’s so important because everything eventually comes back to you: you must never take advantage of your counterpart, but always leave things in best way possible. The benefits will come with time”
