With a qualification to the preliminary round of Europa League, Milan's minimal objective has been reached. One of the rossoneri heroes, Alessandro Nesta, from the team which was able to reach three Champions League finals between 2003 and 2007 and win two of them, has been interviewed by La Gazetta hello Sport. "I wasn't part of those who celebrated the qualification to the preliminary round of Europa League but it's right to do it when you reach an objective, and Milan has. The club's expectations have obviously getting lower since my days, but it is Milan's current time. In that optic, it's an important improvement and a big objective. And then, there's Inter which would be ready to do anything to get at Milan's position... We must me humble and stop thinking about Berlusconi's Milan, that Milan is gone. Humility is the key work, it's with that attitude you have to face that July match in a place you don't really know".
Milan without Berlusconi ? "It's sad. I'm an emotional person, I also miss Moratti... Those people guided their club with passion, it was not about money. In the last few years there has been a lot of chaos and the club wasn't used to deal with these hard conditions. People's roles weren't clear and that made it easier to make a lot of coaches changes. The trainers are the one who always have wrongly paid. I think that after four or five trainers, you may start to think that the problem doesn't only come from who's sitting on the bench. That must be a starting point. I feel perplex right now, I feel like the Interisti seem to be more serious. Bring Milan back to Milan will for sure be difficult, they will have to spend a lot".
Nesta was then asked where Milan has to start from: "An Italian, mentally strong group. Whoever comes after follows the model. It's like that my Milan worked or like does Juve today. Players get old and you must know how to replace them with players that are equally good. If you can't afford to do it, you'll start loosing ground to the others. A bad signal, as an example, was that summer where Milan lost Ibra and Thiago. We were quite a few to stop for personal reasons, Ibra and Thiago for economic reasons; a sign of weakness".
About 2007's Champions League win: "The most beautiful thing was to get back in the lockers with the cup. I remember Ronaldo who was waiting with beers, then we celebrated all night in a pool. Wins are like a drug, you always want to live the same emotions again and when you can't, you go out of your mind".
About Miami FC: "I miss playing a lot, but I really want to become a coach. I work 12 hours a day and it's the only way I can still stay in the football world. Going back to Italy? Never say never. But I also could stay in Miami forever. I ambit to train in Italy when the time comes. In the last years, it was really hard at Milan, debutants like Seedorf, Inzaghi and Brocchi could not be judged. Montella? He's a great coach, he's made a weak-players team play well. He's got very good tactic ideas".
He concludes the interview with a bit of nostalgia: "I miss everything from Milanello. Especially the people working there. The housekeeper, the gardener, the driver. Amazing people. It's been better at Milanello than in some five-stars hotels".
