Milan ended their afternoon at Mapei Stadium 1-0 winners against Sassuolo, an opponent who has tormented them in the past. But a match that featured numerous penalties awarded, goals disallowed, and yellow cards given, the talk of Milan coach Vincenzo Montella after the match was all about the various controversies. His comments to Sky Sport: "Today there were an extraordinary number of incidents, a few were in our favor, and I feel for Sassuolo who played a great match. But I saw a lot of nerves on the pitch, after each incident there were protests, we're getting to crucial time in the season and even referees should be given some consideration with out outrage at every unfavorable call. For example, on the Bacca penalty attempt, if we had had video review it would have shown that it probably should have been retaken as there were two Sassuolo players in the penalty area. We will see it [video review] sooner or later." Montella reflected as well on his team: "I didn't enjoy this match because it was a nervous affair. We attacked well and deserved our lead, but it was not a match that we'll remember well. Locatelli benched? Maybe we'll gauge something from his reaction after he spends a few matches out. Europa League? It will be hard, even though we'll continue to try. Last match for Berlusconi? I am eternally grateful. His influence was why I wished to play for Milan, now I've come in as coach."
