Ahead of the match with Sassuolo, Milan's embattled coach Vincenzo Montella received a vote of confidence from the club's sporting director. Massimiliano Mirabelli, speaking to Premium Sport, confirmed Milan's commitment to their current coach and distanced the club from the rumors of interest in Chelsea coach Antonio Conte: "We have faith in Montella and we are working every day on continuing our project. We might have expected not as much difficulty, but we are all working together to move ahead. Conte rumors? That is something that happens in your world, we are only thinking about the team, about the coach and his assistants. Conte doesn't interest us, nor does any other coach, we are not meddling in other club's business."
Mirabelli also commented on the current Milan team, and their recent results: "We were looking for a series of matches that could reorient this team. We won easily against Chievo but we didn't build off that success. These struggles with a totally new team are normal, but we made this decision carefully, we brought in several terrific young players so that we could begin a cycle."
