Former Milan CEO Marco Fassone revealed to Sole 24 Ore that the Rossoneri tried to make 'the signing of the century' one year before Juventus. According to Fassone, the owner at the time Yonghong Li was determined to bring Cristiano Ronaldo to Milanello: "Mister Li wanted Cristiano Ronaldo because he believed that CR7 had a great appeal on the Chinese market. The Portuguese wanted to leave Madrid and we met Jorge Mendes in 2017 to evaluate the costs of the possible deal. The I talked Li out of it, it was nothing more than a dream since the costs were too high".
Fassone voiced his opinion on his time as Milan CEO: "I think that Milan was managed by a very good board. Many people that worked with me in that board are still there in the new one, like Paolo Scaroni. Every decision was agreed unanimously. We were a bit like friends", concluded Fassone.
