Milan, Fassone: "We had to make a decision now, rather than wait and hope for things to improve"

Rino Gattuso is the new Milan coach, after the club's decision on Monday to sack Vincenzo Montella. The man in charge of the operation, club CEO Marco Fassone, was interviewed at the Gran' gala di Calcio: "Gattuso was the best solution for us. Rino understands the role well and he has accepted it with great humility and enthusiasm. The decision was made this morning after we reflected on it overnight, I waited until the morning to discuss some final thoughts with the club and we made our decision. We need to recognize Montella as a person and with the club, it was a joint effort, and mistakes were made by everyone that resulted in something not working. We decided we needed to make a decision sooner rather than hope that things would improve sooner or later. Transfer market? Together we spoke with Gattuso and Mirabelli and we looked at the need to intervene and make corrections in January. We have a good team that we are convinced can have better results than we are showing today. With Gattuso I am convinced we will get better and our results will improve."
