After twenty years on the pitch wearing the same jersey, Franco Baresi represents one of the last symbols of Italian football. He won multiple trophies with Milan and Silvio Berlusconi, here is what the legend had to say to Il Corriere della Sera after the sale of the club:

“I can’t help but feel some sadness. I know the president is sad, and I am as well. A special era has ended in which I went through more happiness than sadness. I’ll never forget the day I met him. It was 1986, and he had just arrived. He came to visit us, and our coach at the time was Liedholm. We were coming off difficult years, but he brought excitement and expectations”.

He describes Berlusconi as always present: “In the early days, he went through every detail, from nutrition to looks. He cared for me, but he did for all the protagonists that had something to do with the history of Milan. I saw him at the first derby this season and he proved to be emotional. I was hoping he would change his mind”.
