After the protests from Inter manager Luciano Spalletti following the 3-3 tie against Fiorentina, club CEO Beppe Marotta spoke on the controversial penalty that kept Inter from winning the match.
"We took some notable damage, it would be devastating if it's irreparable. It all happened at the end, the game was already defined and therefore it's more grave than a mistake made in the 5'. As an executive I have a regret: football has invested a lot into VAR as an object to use in a rational way. I'm disappointed in the strain it's caused clubs. It should bring objective evaluations and nobody should mistake the gesture of D'Ambrosio. It's the most grave mistake since VAR has existed, the referee was close to the action. I don't condemn the referee, nor is it my job to indicate a mistake. But it's irreparable damage for Inter, I hope it's not fatal for the league. The refereeing system must be impeccable considering the media response and economic impact on the club."
Marotta also spoke on Icardi: "There is no rift. Wanda's words have not broken the balance. I express gratitude to the players because I've seen a motivated squad that has played well. We've already spent a lot of time talking about Icardi, it's time to not speak about the situation anymore."
