The former Juventus midfielder Claudio Marchisio discussed the current situation in Italy and the effect that the Coronavirus outbreak had on football in an interview with Tuttosport: "I'm worried about this situation, like everybody else. I have many friends that are doctors and they describe to me how dramatic the situation is, so, once again: let's stay home".
From a footballing standpoint, the COVID-19 emergency left UEFA with no choice other than postpone Euro 2020: "It was the most logical choice. Postponing the competition to 2021 was the right decision. I hope that club will have time to fisnish this season, even though the idea of starting again in middle April looks like an illusion to me. I think it's more probable that they will be able to start again in middle May, but I know it's impossible to make a prediction at the moment. Rugani and Matuidi? I wish them a speedy recovery, my thoughts are with them".
Marchisio was then asked an opinion on what we could expect, should Serie A season continue: "It will be interesting to understand how players will work during this break. Footballers can't be on break to long and then they will have to play many games in a short time. It will be interesting to monitor the physical but also the mental aspects of this situation. I think Juventus will have an adavantage on Lazio and Inter since the Bianconeri have more squad depth, in my opinion. I thouhgt that they were bouncing back before the break, especially in the game against Inter. Lazio won't have the European cups to play, and that could be a factor in their favour, however we havre to see what will be the effect on the break on Inzaghi's team".
