Mancini-Thohir, how the meeting in Portland went

Inter’s president Erick Thohir met with manager Roberto Mancini last night in Portland, Oregon and it lasted about half an hour as collected by Andrea Paventi. They were cordial with each other, a lot of arguments were discussed but the parties are still quite distant. The board remains unmoved, especially on the mercato: on the hunt for young players with a bright future, no madness for those over 30. As for Candreva, the club will do whatever they can to put him at Coach Mancini’s disposal.

Mancini showed to be deeply unsatisfied for the scarce support the club has given to his indications (Yaya Toure and more). The manager is convinced the club is still missing 2 or 3 quality signings to compete at high levels between Serie A and Europa League. No mentions of a renewal, especially with Thohir; the president has let Mancini know that there will be no problems and the club will do what it can to try and make some signings from now till the end of the transfer window, with Financial Fair Play in mind.  Both for players coming in and those leaving because the squad has to be composed by 21 players as per the rules. The nerazzurri trust in Mancini and want to do well.

Discussions have started over the signing of a new centre-back after the sale of Juan Jesus although another defender leaving the club is necessary first. Ranocchia looks destined to remain if the plan remains as such until August 31st. The next meeting will be July 27th, date of the manager meeting, when more will be known as to how Inter plans to unblock their mercato. The feeling however is that Mancini remains very skeptical of the club’s moves and will continue to evaluate.
