David De Gea has been given plenty of praise for his performances on a regular basis, but especially after his last performance gave Manchester United their sixth consecutive victory under new manager Solskjær. Adjectives such as decisive and incredible can be used to describe the Spanish goalie. It turns out, there is also an unbelievable story behind his signing for Manchester United.

Former manager Sir Alex Ferguson is a staple in the history of the Red Devils. He was there for 27 years and in that time he only missed three matches. Two were for familial obligations like his son's wedding and one for a funeral. The third? To watch David De Gea play in person. The goalkeeper coach under Ferguson, Eric Steele, revealed this story to Mondo Deportivo. He had this to say: "I arrived to United in 2008 and from that moment we were preparing for the day when Edwin Van der Sar would retire. I was convinced that De Gea, only 19 at the time, would be the ideal replacement. I showed a three minute DVD to Ferguson. He was not convinced, however, so I forced him to go watch De Gea play on the night we had a League Cup match against Scunthorpe. It was the third match that Ferguson missed for Manchester United. The result? He was convinced that De Gea would be the right signing at the 65th minute. After a good match he made a monstrous save. He did not think twice and told me we would buy him."
