Milan are in the hands of a new owner, and the changes are not stopping there. Paolo Maldini has been involved in discussions around a possible return. In a series of meetings between September 20-25 (the days between Milan's matches against Lazio and Fiorentina), Maldini met with the club's new director Marco Fassone. According to a report from Peppe Di Stefano of Sky Sport, Fassone offered the technical director's role to Maldini. The role is equivalent in the hierarchy to Massimiliano Mirabelli, who will be the sporting director, both below Fassone. But Maldini has not yet responded to the offer, instead the ex-captain has requested greater power and autonomy in his decisions. Maldini would like a relationship directly interfacing with the Chinese owners. It is now Fassone's turn to give a response. The Chinese are insisting on having a figure from Milan's past in the club, but Maldini comes with his own demands. The conversations are ongoing to bring Maldini back to Milan.
