Since joining Sassuolo, Manuel Locatelli has established himself as a key contributor to De Zerbi's squad and the Italian national team. But before his experience with the neroverdi, the midfielder born in '98 had a great experience at Milan, which he described in an interview with Sassuolo's official website:"I was at Atalanta's youth system since I was six, when the call from Milan came, I froze, but I trusted my parents who guided me on this decision. I signed my first professional contract with Adriano Galliani's pen and I still have it at home"
Locatelli described his first training session with the rossoneri at sixteen:"Montolivo told me to mark Kaka', I wondered where I was. Then I practiced without trying to think and everything went well"
Locatelli discussed the moment he found out he was leaving Milan:"On a bench at Milanello, the directors told me I was no longer important for them. It was devastating but it helped me, because at the end of the day I needed a change"
