Lazio, Lotito: "I don't regret turning down offers for Milinkovic-Savic, I did it for our supporters"

After the upset against Chievo, Lazio seemed to have lost the opportunity to fight for a Champions League spot. The Biancocelesti, however, managed to bounce back getting a crucial win against Sampdoria and, most importantly, reaching the Coppa Italia final. A great achievement for a club that is often subject to criticism from the fans, especially directed towards the president Claudio Lotito.

"People saying that I don't spend enough money to sign new players make me smile - Lotito said to Il Tempo - I am Lazio's majority shareholder, but since the club is quoted on the stock exchange, I have to pay attention to the interests of the smaller investors. Also, the thing that I am stingy is an urban legend, not supported by the facts. Lazio spend a lot of money every year and the numbers in the yearly financial report prove it".

The president also discussed the decision to turn down many significant offers for one of last summer's most pursued players: Sergej Milinkovic-Savic: "I don't have regrets for not selling him, even though it would have been a great deal, economically speaking. But I made a promise to the coach and football is not only business. I kept him at the club also because I didn't want to psycologically upset our supporters. Plans for the future? We will see where we finish this season and then we will plan the future accordingly. Inzaghi? He has a contract at the moment, and nobody, not even me, has put his position into question. We have to try and achieve the best possible results, because we have a team with great potential. They must fulfill it. We will make our plans according to the competitions we will be in next season and to the incomes. I hope that the team can found the serenity and the focus to face the final stint of the season and reach an objective congruent to the team's potential", concluded Lotito.
