2019 was a unique year for Maurizio Sarri, as it saw him moving on from Chelsea and joining the Juventus bench. The year closed out with a Supercoppa loss against Lazio, and the manager spoke on his 2019 experiences.
"We arrived with little energy and we paid for it. We are sorry, not winning a trophy always hurts. The team is stretched, we lost distance between the levels and the individuals. Therefore, Lazio played in little spaces and with time at their disposition. This cannot happen to us."
"We are still in a phase in which we have highs and lows. We have moments in which we truly play as a team, others in which we lose a little moment. Getting back to normality, it's our mentality that demands everything immediately. Klopp's Liverpool are the champions of Europe and world champions and in the first two years were in 11th and 8th place. The strange aspect is that we allow goals in the situations in the penalty area and Juve was very strong there prior. We have young players who are playing, this is our league and the mentality of Italian football, like Demiral and De Ligt. We must have a bit of patience."
On 2020: "Champions League must be an objective, but with the understanding that a bit for the strength of the opponents and a bit for the fact that it's an elimination tournament that can always bring us risks and episodes. The word of order? Continue to win and convince. It seems to be like Arrigo, but it's something that'll continue to be true: win deserving the victory and dominating matches. We've only seen it in flashes, but it's all part of the journey that I said at first."
