Matthijs De Ligt, who is now officially a Juventus player, flew to Singapore with his new teammates and is getting to know them in Asia. He will play his first minutes in the bianconero shirt, possibly in the first match against Tottenham. Before getting on the plane, though, he spoke about the reasons he joined Juventus with Telegraaf. His decision to make a transfer to Italy was not taken well in Holland, as everyone wanted him to join Barcelona like de Jong.
"Criticism will always arrive. In Holland they believe it's strange to not choose Barcelona and all types of things are said. But at the end, I decide and I'm surprised by their doubts. Juventus believes in me a lot, they made me feel desired and showed me a clear growth plan. In Italy there's a worship for defense, it'll be a great school for me. I'll have teachers that will complete me even more."
