Juventus, Allegri: “The 3-1 is a big blow. We lacked intensity…”

Juventus have sustained their third defeat this season. A heavy 3-1 defeat against Genoa that cannot provide Allegri with any satisfaction. The Juventus coach spoke about the game to Sky Sport: “This can happen. Even last year we had a historically bad start to the season. How did we lose? We had 25 fouls against us, and only committed 8; therefore, we lacked intensity. We committed errors, but there was little to do. We improved in the second half, but getting a result was always going to be difficult. We are still four points ahead, and I believe that we lowered our level of intensity after the match against Sevilla.”

“By positioning Cuadrado between the lines I thought we would have an advantage given that they were man marking us throughout the entire field. Lichtsteiner knows how to move forward under pressure, but it went badly; I undoubtedly made some mistakes. Winning against Sevilla was not easy, and it was an important as well as difficult job. Nonetheless, our initial attitude was positive, but we were too casual with respect to the goals we conceded. We still have a four point advantage, but must reflect: we must match the physicality of our opponents, and then we can rely on our superior technique to achieve victories. If we kept the match at 2-0, then it would have been possible for us to mount a comeback. Three defeats after Champions League football is not a coincidence; one defeat would be acceptable, but this is not good. We must reflect. It is a big blow, but we are still in a good position. I would want to win every game, but no one can do this. We will attempt to pick ourselves back up with the awareness that we must match the physical intensity of our opponents.”
