After tying against Spain, thanks to a penalty by Daniele De Rossi, the Italian national team must look ahead to their next qualifying match against Macedonia. Before tomorrow's contest in Skopje, Italy's head coach Giampiero Ventura spoke at a pre-match press conference today. He talked about the actions of Graziano Pellè, who has since been excluded from the squad, after refusing to shake Ventura's hand when he was subbed off in the last match.
"I believe that there was a lack of respect from Pellè , not just to me but to the group." - Ventura said - "His exclusion? His gesture was unacceptable. Macedonia? The game won't be easy. They've lost two but were unlucky. It will be an important game for Italy. We struggled against Spain. that's not good enough for Italy. We have to build something better. The aim is to improve in every aspect game by game, not only in terms of attitude."
In the game against Macedonia, we could see the return of Marco Verratti: "Verratti is a key asset for us. If there are no surprises, he'll play tomorrow. He wasn't fit for the game against Spain. De Rossi and Verratti have different attributes. We'll rotate some players tomorrow."
On playing some of the younger Azzurri players, the coach said: ""People say you should give young players a chance but then say it's risky as soon as you do so. We can count on a lot of young players to be part of this group but it takes time. We'll see."
