Italian referees' association president Nicchi on VAR: "It will be introduced in Europe soon, the mistakes in the Champions League games would have been canceled out with it"

Aia (Italian referees' association) president Marcello Nicchi talked about one of the hottest topic right now in football: the introduction of VAR in European competitions: "In Serie A we started early with VAR because we have a fantastic group of referees - Nicchi said to La Gazzetta dello Sport - We still have to work to improve, but the results have been very good so far and a football without VAR is not possible. There have been some mistakes of course, everybody can make mistakes, from players to referees, But the pros of technology are evident". Nicchi also discussed the mistakes in the Champions League semifinals: "Those where some serious mistakes, many were against Italian teams, but I think that's a coincidence. Those mistakes would have been canceled out if VAR was already been introduced of course. That's why I'm positive that we it will be used also in Uefa competitions very soon", concluded Aia's president.
