Erick Thohir has been confirmed to remain Inter president after the Suning Group bought 68,55% of the club’s shares. The Inter number one released these statements from Palazzo Parigi: “I’m honoured to announce my permanence as Inter president and owner of 31% of the club’s shares. This is the beginning of a great collaboration with Suning. The group’s plans are very important: we are a great club and a big brand. It’s the first time that a Chinese team becomes a majority owner of a European club. We have worldwide fame but we respect the roots of this club. To remain competitive we need to invest and Suning guarantees such. I’d like to thank the Suning Group for believing in me and my team, together we will bring Inter back to its previous glory. We will strengthen the team for next season”.
Thohir also had time to speak about the mercato and Roberto Mancini: “We have full faith in Roberto Mancini, he’s done an excellent job. We improved a lot in the last season, but naturally it is still not enough. We need to qualify for the Champions League as soon as possible and in a coherent manner. The transfer window? We’ve signed a lot of players, I don’t think we’ll change 11 players again. We’ve got a good team, Suning aims to attract the best players worldwide but also Italians. Suning sees an opportunity to sign Gabriel Jesus and we’re quite sure about that. Meanwhile we are studying the situation around Berardi and Candreva. We’re not looking for seven players but two or three”.
