After last week's heavy defeat to Napoli at the San Paolo, Inter have one last chance to secure a Champions League spot for next season. In order to reach their objective, the Nerazzurri will have to get the three points against Empoli, a team that has managed to get full points in the last three matches and that is still well in the race to avoid relegation.
Coach Luciano Spalletti discussed the game in the pre-match press conference, most likely his last with the Nerazzurri: "There are similarities with the Lazio game last season because the match has the same important, it's essentialy a knockout game, a cup final, a crucial match. It's all about getting the results you need. Empoli are on form at this moment in time but we have to prove that once again we can show our full repertoire tomorrow night. It's all about showing your best form. I expect my players to be trained for moments like these. My players and I feel very good because once again we have the target of qualifying for the Champions League for the second year in a row. We will play the match and then we'll see where we'll be playing next season. We need to believe in ourselves and to have the mental strength to be able to get a result"
Finally, the coach was then asked about the lineup and the current players who deserve to be at the club next season: "De Vrij is available and so is Politano. I believ that both Icardi and Lautaro are suited to this fixture, they have the character and personality to make an impact on the course of the events. They are both very mentally strong and also very good footballers. Many, many players deserve to be here and tomorrow night we'll all be there", Spalletti concluded.
