Beppe Marotta has officially joined as the newest director in Inter's project. With the nerazzurri taking on Udinese in Serie A, Marotta attended his first game since leaving Juventus and joining Inter, and he spoke with Sky Sport about a number of topics confronting his team:
Marotta first discussed the Champions League exit: "We feel very disappointed to have been eliminated from the most important competition in the world. But we must look ahead and calmly set new goals. We must get back on track with pride and a feeling of togetherness.
On Icardi: "He is our captain, our goalscorer. A great player, one I have the utmost respect for. Extension? There are important dynamics at work which we will deal with in time."
The rivalry with Juventus: "Are Inter more advanced than Juve in 2010? Absolutely yes. My arrival at Inter is an added bit of experience on an already strong present situation, which will only improve things. The gap with Juve is still very strong. Zhang has showed that he has ambition and has the club in his heart. The distance with Juve should not be an excuse.
On transfers: "Whoever spends most on the market doesn't always win the most, in some clubs the culture is what makes the difference. Money just compliments everything else."
Finally, on Conte: "Spalletti is a great coach, he can do his job in peace. He arrived just last year, he has gotten the team into a good position with a team that has endured challenges. He has every quality to secure a role as a protagonist."
