After scoring two decisive goals against Southampton and bringing home a trophy for Manchester United, Zlatan Ibrahimovic has left his mark in England. At 35 years old he is still making the difference. However things could have easily gone a different way this summer:
“At the start I didn’t decide to go to Manchester United, but my kids insisted. Then Mourinho called me, and so I made my decision. In football there is a time for everything, and if I hadn’t come to England previously in my career, it is because it wasn’t the time. This was the right time, plus Mourinho called me up and I have a great relationship with him. My renewal? This time I’m the boss, not my kids. The Champions League isn’t essential, I accepted this destination without it. Some people said I wouldn’t renew without qualifying, but that simply isn’t true. I’m satisfied with what I’ve done so far, but I don’t want to be like other players. I don’t want to play just because I used to be a good player or because of my name. I want to play only if I’ll still be able to bring results home”.
A final joke when asked if leaving Manchester United would be a step back in his career: “A step back for me or for the club?”.
