He's essentially going against his self interest, but Pep Guardiola knows well what Leo Messi means to Barcelona. After the manager signed an extension with Manchester City through 2023, he was asked about the possibility of reuniting with Messi:"I don't know what will go through his mind when his contract expires. But he's a Barcelona player and I have enormous gratitude towards that club, for what it did for me. I want him to finish his career there, that is my desire"
Guardiola was also asked about his recent extension:"I want to thank the club for opportunity to continue here. Even during the quarantine there were no firings, everyone kept their jobs"
