From Courtois to De Bruyne to Milinkovic-Savic to Koulibaly, many talents have grown at Genk and then moved onto a big European club. The Belgian club takes on Napoli in Champions League today.
This is a special match for the Napoli defender Koulibaly, as he will be welcomed back by his former club, who is ready to give him a warm welcome on their jumbotron. Genk Sporting Director Dimitri De Condè spoke to Sky Sport prior to the match.
"Kalidou is a physical monster, there will be a big welcome on the jumbotron for him. We're also preparing a gift, but I haven't stabilized it and therefore I don't know what it'll be."
"We invest a lot of money in our academy, working to construct our young players at home. The Belgian league is important to evaluate these talents, we invest a lot in scouting and make them play at 18-19 years old so they have a chance to grow. Milinkovic-Savic? Thanks to the money for that sale we were able to reconstruct the team and win the title last year."
