FIFA president Gianni Infantino commented on Italy's situation and FIGC president Tavecchio's work: "I think that it's not fair to judge his presidency based only on one single bad result. I have great respect for Tavecchio and his work. He may be old-fashioned but he's also open to innovation and ready to work for Italian football's sake, as the introduction of VAR and FIGC's good balance sheet demonstrate" says Infantino to La Gazzetta dello Sport.
"Of course I can understand the disappointment of the Italian people, but if that Darmian's shot had hit the back of the net instead of the post, the situation would have been completely different. Italy always managed to bounce back and they will once again".
