The loss against the Czech Republic has complicated Italy's path to qualify and to reach the semifinals of the European Under-21 Championship. Their qualification hopes are still, but like always it is not in our hands. Obviously, it is imperative to win against Germany.
Italy can reach the semifinals by:
-Beating Germany and hope that the Czech Republic do not win against Denmark. In this case, Italy would finish first with 6 points and would have a better head to head record against Germany.
-Beating Germany with a score of at least 3-1: In this case, Italy would finish first even if the Czech Republic win. The final standings would see Italy finish first and Germany would finish second due to goals scored.
-Beating Germany 2-0 and hope to finish as the best second place: Portugal and Slovakia could also finish second, starting with 3 points and a goal difference of zero.
A victory by a margin of 1 goal could not be enough and Italy would have to hope that the Czech Republic loses. If the Czechs win, Italy would finish third and would be eliminated from the tournament.
